Emerson

When the third call from Top came in, Emerson turned off his phone and shoved it into the pocket of his jacket. He’d deal with Top’s anger and disappointment when he got back. Pushing back that issue, he focused on the task he came to complete. He tossed a twenty on the table and left the diner.

The file on Vapor didn’t have much in the way of direction, but Emerson was intelligent. He would figure it out. Until then, he decided to take a stroll through the town and see what he could discover.

It was during his walk that he got the first glimpse of Beast and Sly. They were coming out of the parking lot of a motel down the street from where Emerson was walking, but they didn’t have Vapor. Not wanting to be spotted, he turned and entered the first door he came to.

“Well, hello,” a feminine voice cooed from across the space. It was a women’s clothing store that he had ducked into, and the woman speaking was middle-aged and beautiful, standing behind a counter with a cash register on it. “My name is Francine, and I’ll be happy to help you find whatever you’re looking for.”

The true meaning behind her words was evident when they were accompanied by a slow up-and-down pass of her eyes on his body. She was gorgeous, but he was taken, even if his mate was no longer on the Earth, and he had a mission to do.

“Thanks, but wrong store.” He gave her a nod and turned to look out the door. Beast and Sly were on the sidewalk, heading in the opposite direction.

Ignoring the woman behind him, who was still speaking, Emerson stepped out and quickly made his way down to the motel parking lot. He shifted to the left, so he was hidden from the corner of the L-shaped building and looked around at the structure.

The sign said that it was apartments, but it looked more like an old motel that had been converted to long-term rentals. There were two levels, and the doors were open to the parking lot and the exterior balcony for the second floor. At least it seemed to be well-maintained and clean, even if it was an older building.

“If you’re trying to hide the fact that you’re a biker, you’re going to have to do better than that,” someone said from his right.

Emerson jumped, his wolf letting out a howl, and looked in the direction the voice came from. A tall, lanky teenage female stood there with her arms crossed over her chest. She had black hair cut in a mid-length edgy style and dark brown eyes. Her jeans were black and had rips and tears up and down both legs. Through the holes, he saw that she was wearing a pair of leggings that were black with white skulls on them. Under a leather jacket much like his own, she was wearing a tee with a skeleton hand giving the middle finger. Immediately, Emerson liked the girl, and his wolf settled inside of him.
